Eye Like Gallery would like to announce the release of "Poppies", a print created by Russell Marshall in honour of Remembrance Day. This poignant print is only available through Eye Like and nine other galleries, and has been created in order to raise money and awareness for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Importantly, edition 111/111 of "Poppies" is to be framed and presented to the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Help for Heroes became Russell's personal charity ultimately due to a combination of seeing Ministry of Defence photographs, and working for a national newspaper. It is through his involvement in the newspaper, that on an almost daily basis, he was reading the names of young troops that have been killed during recent conflicts.
As a result, Help for Heroes has become the unofficial charity of the paper that Russell works for, and alongside other colleagues, he has become involved with fund raising events such as The Big Battlefield Bike Ride.
A special mention goes to John Purcell Paper, Stockwell, London who have kindly donated the paper, and also Jealous Print Studios in Shoreditch, London who have donated the time, expertise and means in order to produce"Poppies".
Russell states how 'hearing the stories of the courage and strength of those wounded has stayed with me', and Eye Like are truly pleased that through "Poppies", we are able to honour those whose lives have been taken in duty.
"Poppies" is a two colour hand pulled silk screen print, in an edition of 111, measuring 70cm x 50cm. The print is available to purchase from Eye Like Gallery and our online store, and all profits from the sale of the print will be equally donated between Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The cost of the print is £111, but if you feel that you would like to pay more than this then your donation will be gratefully received by both charities.
