No frickin' way, can you believe that Eye Like turns 2 today?! And whether you've been an Eye Liker from the beginning, or you've only recently joined our family, we're super appreciative of every single person who's been a part of the journey so far!
But enough of the clichés, to commemorate this momentous occasion, we've compiled a selection of Eye Like's arty anecdotes, memorable moments and silly stories for you to laugh, cry, or even gawp at... Happy reading folks!
31st of May marked a truly pivotal event in Beaconsfield history... Opening our doors for the very first time, on this day Eye Like Gallery was officially born! And despite all the sweat, blood and tears shed beforehand (okay so maybe no actual blood was involved!) all the hard work was well and truly worth it... Two years later, and with a gallery that's still jam-packed with kick-ass art, we can tell you that the outstanding opening was only a taster of the sweet few years that were to come!
Always ones to go hard and fast, what did we decide to organise only four months after opening? Eye Like Gallery threw themselves into the deep end by hosting their first ever solo gallery show with fine art photographer Gina Soden! To this day, we're still utterly proud to have launched her 'Emergence' series, and of course to have revealed her show-stopper supersize print 'Krankenhaus' at the private view. Filled with Gina's awe-inspiring fine art photographs, the gallery was most definitely a spectacular sight - not to mention the talk of the town!
Let's be honest, we just had to include our little fella Brody (resident gallery dog) in these anecdotes! The cheeky chappy certainly made a name for himself at the beginning of October, by escaping the clutches of the gallery when our backs were turned! That's right, our paw pal had decided enough was enough, his afternoon nap was awaiting, and that he'd walk himself back home! Amusingly, he'd even managed to carry his favourite toy in his mouth, obviously not wanting to leave it behind... Luckily for us, Brody was rescued by his knight in shining armour from Laithwaites across the road, and he was returned to us safe and sound!
However, the antics from other members of the Eye Like team took place at the end of October, when we took a trip to the Grand Autumn Fair. Our day 'on tour' was thoroughly enjoyable as well as successful, but the 'highlight' had to be the journey there in our hired van... I was designated to be the lucky person holding the artworks in place at the back - sat on a cushion in the pitch black with only my phone torch as salvation! After experiencing many bumps and knocks, when the doors were finally opened I don't think I've ever been so glad to see daylight. It was most definitely a journey to remember!
Phwoaar, how do you make a one year anniversary truly unforgettable? By releasing one scorching hot limited edition print - and by hosting one big birthday bash of course! Turning one was always going to be a pretty big deal, and coincidentally, Clint Eastwood happened to turn 85th on the very same day... So it would have been rude not to take advantage of this, and feature the star in a super striking print!
As you can imagine, the exclusive release of 'Better Call Clint' by Russell Marshall left lots of people hot and flustered, and little to the imagination. And let's just say, when the print was displayed in our window it most certainly got tongues wagging... The best news though is that this eye-popping print can still be yours (just about!), so don't be afraid to give us a call if your heart has been set on fire!
The return of September in our second year could only mean one thing - another sensational show was on the cards! The group show 'Kaleidoscopic', as you can probably guess, focused on a collection of contemporary colours and styles, which most certainly dazzled the people of Beaconsfield and beyond. The favourite of the night though had to be our lenticular of Marilyn Monroe, who blowing a kiss managed to transfix everyone as they walked through the door. In the spirit of the party I think the lenticular managed to entertain me just a little too much, and I was far too immersed in pretending to be the star! Overall the show was a roaring success, and we've no doubt that the colour craze was most welcome in the homes of so many of our clients.
Last October, and just in time for Halloween, we were well and truly thrilled to the bones to be invited to the super secret release of JJ Adams' 'Surgery' series in Hoxton. After first meeting JJ the month before and being completely starstruck (a serious amount of swooning was involved) this event certainly didn't disappoint. That night we received a true lesson in theatrics - after a tense and exciting wait for his new work to be revealed, we were dramatically welcomed into the surgery to be shell-shocked by light-box originals. But what was the antidote to our delirium that evening? We acquired one of these seven electrifying originals, 'Exterminate', which quite literally has the x-factor!
Oh man oh man did a February frenzy await us, all because of our favourite Zombie! As one of Eye Like's long-standing artists, we were bouncing off the walls when we finally got to meet Lora Zombie - with her playful personality on top form - at a Saatchi Gallery group show three months ago.
Not only did we get to drool at a selection of her vivid originals, but serious shivers went down our spines when we received an original sketch from Lora. Featuring our very own Brody, this little painting has touched our hearts - and many of his fans - forever. After the sketch became an Instagram sensation, Brody now has quite the following!
And how do we end our two years with a bang? With the best nightmare that you'll ever have! After the soaring requests for Pure Evil's original print featuring icon Debbie Harry, we thought it was only fair that we satisfy your desires, by creating a brand-spanking new colour-way especially for you Eye-Likers...
'Chris Stein's Nightmare - Golden Years' is a mind-blowing limited edition screen print exclusive to Eye Like, and since it's release a few weeks ago, our headquarters have been crazy mad fulfilling the orders (and dreams) of so many Pure Evil fans.
We're utterly proud to have inspired the release of such an atomic print, and more importantly, to have caused some serious rapture amongst our much appreciated followers!
