Yes that’s right, the Eye Like Elves (Mollie, Saro and Nik) are truly in the Christmas spirit! Our festive fun began on Thursday 27th November, when we hosted our first late night opening. To create the atmosphere we put on our finest Christmas music, poured out wine, and you guessed it, made homemade tasty mince pies to whet people’s appetite with.
My mince pie making the previous evening, much to my delight, went smoothly and we ended up with many goodies to serve. If you didn’t see my mince pie progress updates on twitter, here’s a cheeky look at our tasty treats…
Not just a tasty delight however, the pies really did become the highlight of the late night opening, when Saro stood outside of the gallery offering them to the people of Beaconsfield. Much to the amusement of onlookers, she proudly offered up the pies to people driving past in their cars, and we got far too excited when we thought an AA van was turning round to take one off of our hands (it turned out he wasn’t, and that there was a broken down car nearby)! We even received comments from a few Eye Like Fans who took our tweet (pictured here) to be an innuendo for who knows what… you naughty people!
Our Christmas vibes stayed strong until the next evening, when we decided to up the ante and create round two of our festive window display. Armed with our Eye Like wrapping paper, we wrapped our display pieces neatly and added the cherry on top of the icing – a gorgeous bow. To finish though, we got our claws into each piece and ripped the paper off of the fronts to reveal the images underneath.
And quite frankly, Saro, Nik and I were delighted at the final product– we think we’ve truly cracked the creativity code. So watch out Beaconsfield, who knows what we’ll think up next.
Most recently on our Christmas agenda was the Beaconsfield Festival of Lights on Wednesday 10th December. Now here's where we really showed our commitment to the Christmas spirit, as we kept our doors open throughout the evening, despite the arctic weather... (Slight exaggeration, but after an entire day and evening of the bitter cold my fingers and nose really did think I was in a different climate!)
However it was totally worth it, as the turnout that night was truly incredible, and we saw many Eye Like newbies as well as familiar faces. As is custom at a Christmas late night opening, we served an array of treats - including my famous mince pies mentioned above and mulled wine to sip on. Now I know that wine seems to have been mentioned a lot during this blog post, but lets be honest, Christmas spirit isn't complete without it right? Oh, only me then!
It was fab to see so many people out supporting us that night and coming in for a catch up, and overall the Beaconsfield Festival of Lights only emphasised the jolly atmosphere that Eye Like loves to create so much. However, I'm just glad that people saw a cheeky glimpse of my Christmas jumper - a one time only event that will hopefully be repeated next year if you're lucky!
