Forget Saturday night fever, it was Eye Like's antics last Thursday evening that got us into a complete and utter frenzy! What was it that caused our heart rates to soar this time? Only a highly anticipated trip to see our favourite Zombie!
Yes that's right, excitingly, a selection of Lora Zombie's art is being exhibited in 'XX: A Moment in Time' at the Saatchi Gallery, and she travelled all the way from Russia to make an appearance at the private view! So of course, when the Eye Like team were invited to be her guests of honour (well we like to think we're VIP's!) we completely jumped at the chance to attend...
After bouncing off the walls all day, come Thursday evening it didn't take long for us to hunt down our hero at the exhibition - let me tell you that bright blue hair comes in really useful at moments like this! And wow, its more than fair to say that after all the hype we were in no way disappointed... From the moment we met Lora her quirky, playful and energetic personality totally touched our hearts - it's no wonder really that her work has had us enchanted for so long!
As one of Eye Like's most long-standing artists (we've been supporting her since we began in 2013) one of the amazing things we've noticed over the years is how her work appeals to such a large audience. At the show this was no exception, and it was incredible to see the varied reactions to her enthralling artwork whilst Lora was present in the room. Luckily, I don't think it was just me that was slightly starstruck - and yes it's true that I had a cocktail beforehand to calm my nerves!
The show featured work from a selection of contemporary female street and graffiti artists, and given the gasps of appreciation and awe from around the room, needless to say Lora's artwork was on top form. Featured within the exhibition were a selection of her original paintings, alongside the pièce de résistance - the mural she'd painted only the day before! (Could she be anymore talented?!) Covering an entire wall, this vivid painting sent shivers down my spine, and I'm not kidding when I say there were queues to catch a glimpse of this masterpiece!
As always though, each and every one of her vibrant originals were boldly ironic, and once again we were all astounded by her ingenuity. Lora's artwork never fails to be electrifying, so with no bias whatsoever, I can most definitely say that her artwork stood out from the crowd...
Sadly though, all good things have to come to an end, and it wasn't long before we had to bid our goodbyes... After an evening of awesome company and breath-taking art we left the Saatchi Gallery in quite a trance, armed with memories - and more importantly - an arty treat! (Intrigued? Take a cheeky read below...) Oh Lora, we've got our fingers and our toes firmly crossed that it won't be long before we meet again!
