Glancing around the gallery and seeing the amazing turn out for our 'Kaleidoscopic' Private view last Thursday evening, it's hard to believe I was worried that we wouldn't be ready in time! In this case, the phrase 'it'll be alright on the night' couldn't have rung more true, as in fact the evening was more than alright, and was definitely a complete success!
Rewind 24 hours though... In order to fill the gallery with truly 'Kaleidoscopic' prints, all of the existing artworks in the gallery had to be taken off the walls and moved to a super secret location. Easier said than done right? You've got to be kidding!
After working all through the night the previous evening (okay not quite the whole evening, but it did feel like that at the time!) we were faced with an extremely jam packed gallery on the Thursday. By the afternoon though, we'd successfully cleared out the gallery, and we were left with a blank canvas for us to work our magic on! And as piece after piece was hung on the walls, the gallery was transformed by the multitude of colours and styles - even managing to take my breath away! (And no not because I'm unfit!)
As the clock struck 6pm our first guests arrived, and from this point the night went onwards and upwards! Throughout the evening we had a smashing turn out (if I say so myself), and it was clear from people's reactions that the artworks were as mesmerising as we'd hoped. The best part is that there was art to suit everyone, quite an accomplishment considering all you Eye Likers have such varied tastes...
If you're a fan of glitz and glamour like I am, no doubt the central piece in the gallery - Joe Webb's 'Back to Black' with Diamond Dust - would have wowed you right from the beginning! Dazzling under the lights, the alluring image captured the hearts of many (myself included)! And for a different kind of sparkle, Brad Faine's tribute to the Oscars with his print 'I'd Like To Thank' may be your art heaven! Composed of a grid of stills from every film that's won the Best Picture award since 1929, this piece was a major talking point throughout the night, leaving many to guess those magic movie moments!
So despite all of the hard work involved beforehand, an evening filled with entrancing art, great company and lots of laughter made the private view all the more worthwhile. It was truly sad to wave our guests goodbye after such a great evening, and our minds are now whirring with ideas for our next show...
But for those of you that are thinking 'darn it, I've missed out on seeing all of these beauties', the good news is that 'Kaleidoscopic' is running until 30th September! So what are you waiting for, treat your eyes to these vivid prints while you have the chance (they'll be gone faster than you can say 'Elvis has left the building!')
